Your First Cruise: What to Expect

by guestcontributor on May 6, 2012

Each cruise line has its own amenities and features, but then again, almost all of them have many things in common. If you’ve never been in a cruise before, chances are you will be overwhelmed of the choices and things you can do inside the ship. This entry will help you narrow your options to enjoy the cruise the best way you can. Here are the basic things to expect in your first cruise:

Accommodations

  • Cabins range from cheapest to ridiculously expensive. You can choose from interior (no window), balcony, ocean view, suite (bigger room w/ balcony, which is obviously expensive).
  • Phone access and internet are both readily accessible, but they can be real pricey too.

Food and Drinks

  • There is always fine gourmet dining served every night at cruise ship’s restaurant, but like a hotel room, you can always ask for room service, they’re available 24/7. There are also lunch and dinner buffets. High end specialty restaurants offers, have their added costs.
  • There will be at least 1 or 2 Formal nights throughout the voyage where guests are asked to dress up for a formal dinner. Of course, you always have choice to skip it and do the buffet.
  • Most cruise ships, if not all, give passengers as much water, coffee and tea as they can drink. Alcoholic beverages though are for sale.

On Board

  • Every cruise ship has desk space and pools where passengers can lay out and tan.
  • Spa and Gym are also available for fitness buffs. Cruise ships also hold exercises classes, and wellness services and facilities such as massage, manicure and Jacuzzi.
  • Casino gaming is also available for everyone.
  • Kids programs to keep your kids busy, allowing you to enjoy all the things you want.
  • Nightly Entertainment such as comedy and Broadway/ Vegas style is available nightly.

A cruise ship is like a complete little town that offers all the kind of fun and entertainment you need while enjoying your voyage at the sea to your destination.

The Common Blunders Made by Cruise Goers

by guestcontributor on January 5, 2012

Taking a cruise is one of the greatest things that you can do in your life. But most cruise goers also end up making blunders during their trip. And these could prove costly for them. So to help you avoid this here is a list of the most common blunders made by cruise goers.

Always eating in Buffets
Good food is so hard to resist especially when you are allowed to eat all that you can. This is the allure of buffets. However, indulging too much on them could drain your wallet fast as you take too much unhealthy meals.

Staying on the Cruise during a Stop
Cruises are set to stop by several destinations before going back to sea. This is a best time to visit these places since the cruise will be on the dock for a couple of hours before sailing again. It is best to take a taxi so that you can maximize your touring of the place. It is also the best time to buy souvenirs. You can even opt to visit a friend or relative that lives within the location.

Limited to Zero Exploration
Cruise ships can be really daunting to first time passengers. They are usually reluctant to go around the large and busy ship. But you should. There are several great activities around like live bands and other shows. Do not be afraid if you think that you could get lost. Maps are available for all cruise goers which allow them to navigate around the miniature city floating in the sea.

These are the common blunders that cruise goers make. Now that you know them you can now avoid doing them and maximize the experience of riding on a cruise liner. List them if you have to so that you can remind yourself when you unconsciously do one of these blunders.
